GENERAL INFORMATION

The Inti Raymi tour is the one that we will take in order to learn about the most important festivity for the Incas; “The Sun Festival“. We will learn about the customs and religion. The Inti Raymi was celebrated each year to commemorate and celebrate the God Sun. This would take place on the winter solstice, and the purpose of the festival was to offer the Sun God its best crops so that the sun would approach the earth and bring warmth and happiness to all its Children. This tour starts in the Koricancha, Huacaypata or Main Square and ends in the archeological complex of Saqsayhuaman.

QUE HARAS?

  • THIS TOUR STARTS WITH THE PASSENGER PICKUP. AFTER THIS, WE HEAD TO "THE KORICANCHA TEMPLE" OR "TEMPLO DE SANTO DOMINGO". THIS IS THE PLACE FROM WHERE THE REENACTMENT OF THE "INTIRAYMI" BEGINS.
  • THE CEREMONY STARTS WITH THE "CHASKIS PUTUTEROS" WHO BLOW THEIR CONCHS TO ANNOUNCE THE INCA. THE INCA, ACCOMPANIED BY THE AQLLAS, QOYA, THE ROYAL STAFF AND THE WHOLE ARMY THEN ANNOUNCES TO ALL THE PEOPLE TO TAKE PART OF THIS WONDERFUL FESTIVITY.
  • AFTER WATCHING THE FIRST PART OF THE "INTI RAYMI" REENACTMENT, WE ALL MOVE TO THE "PLAZA DE ARMAS" AS WE WALK, WE CAN APPRECIATE HOW THE "INKA" MOVES ALONG WITH HIS STAFF AND HOLDS A SPEECH IN THE MAIN SQUARE WHERE THE MAYOR OF THE CITY IS IN ATTENDANCE AS WELL.
  • RIGHT AFTER THE SPEECH WE TAKE THE TOURIST BUS AND DRIVE TO THE CEREMONIAL STAGE AREA IN SAQSAYHUAMAN, HERE WE WILL WATCH THE LAST AND MAIN PART OF THE INTI RAYMI REENACTMENT; THE SACRIFICE OF THE LAMA AS AN OFFERING TO THE SUN GOD.
  • IN THIS PLACE, A LUNCH BOX WILL BE PROVIDED AND ONCE THE REENACMENT HAS COME TO AN END, WE WILL RETURN BACK TO THE CITY OF CUSCO.

Lima – Capital city of Peru.

Lima is located on the central coast of the country. The city is on the shores of the pacific ocean and has an estimated 8, 5 million inhabitants. On January the 18th 1535, the city was founded and was given the name of ”King´s city”. Nowadays, the city is the political, financial, and cultural center of the country. Lima is the third most populous city in Hispanic America and also ranks fifth in the most populous cities in South America.

Cusco – Capital city of the Inca Empire.

Cusco o “Qosqo” which in Quechua means ”Navel of the world”, is a city located in the southeast part of the country and also situated in the eastern part of the Andes mountain chain. Cusco is known as the ”Historic capital of the country”. This is because it was the capital of the Inca Empire. The city boasts several churches, palaces, and squares in baroque and neoclassical styles. All these attractions make Cusco the main touristic attraction in Peru. UNESCO has declared Cusco as a ”World Heritage Site” in 1983.
